I’ve called Long Beach home for over 65 years, sharing these decades with my loving husband of 46 years. We’ve raised our family here, and our commitment to giving back to the community through volunteering at nonprofits and our church has always been a top priority for us. My husband’s enduring service to the City of Long Beach has truly been a blessing to all.
The concept of Ageless Beauty has been my mission for the past five years. I firmly believe that beauty is a divine gift that knows no age, time limit, or boundaries; it resides within all of us. My quest for meaningful impact and empowerment through my way of life was significantly amplified when I met Sheryl and became a part of Joyely. A year ago, I joined as a Global Ambassador of Joyely, and during this time, I’ve come to understand that joy is not a fleeting emotion. I’ve learned that you can tap into the inherent joy you were born with and infuse more joy into your life. In these trying times, I am convinced that sharing this movement is more crucial than ever.
When the idea of participating in a beauty pageant crossed my mind this year, I felt a strong urge to trust my intuition. It wasn’t as if I had harbored a lifelong aspiration to be crowned a queen of anything. I had observed other women and even volunteered at this pageant in years past, witnessing their growth and newfound confidence.
Over time, the pageant in Long Beach has evolved to place a strong emphasis on sharing one’s true self and enjoying the journey alongside fellow candidates. The best thing you can do is simply be yourself.
I’ve come to understand that taking a moment to sit, breathe, think, and feel enables me to connect with the joyful being I was born to be. It’s a daily practice that brings me calm, joy, and peace.
As I grappled with the idea of announcing my participation in a beauty pageant, I asked myself, “Why would I do that?” The answer became crystal clear to me. I felt an undeniable calling to demonstrate to others that beauty is synonymous with love, and love knows no age. My hope is to inspire others to rediscover their beauty and age gracefully with grace and joy, rather than fear.
With the daily practice of Joyely’s Sit, Breathe, Think, Feel, I found the courage to step out of my comfort zone and attempt something I had never thought possible for myself. The entire experience was nothing short of amazing. Taking that initial step of deciding to participate, and then following through by putting in the effort and embracing the daily practice, truly empowered me.
While I may have “won,” I believe that every candidate who participated emerged victorious in their own way. That first step can indeed be intimidating, and I’m certain it was for Sheryl Lynn, the founder of Joyely. I am immensely grateful that she took that step, and I’m proud to be a part of this wonderful journey with all of you.
